Interstellar Empires is a browser-based 4X strategy game where you build a base, manage resources, and expand in a persistent sci fi world. The game is set in a universe where humans discovered ancient portals created by another species, each reachable through specific symbol combinations. You upgrade buildings, research technologies, train ground units for portal missions, and construct starships for larger battles on the galaxy map. Alliances let players coordinate attacks, defend each other, and control shared objectives. The game also includes scouting, asteroid mining, and events that reward exploration, combat, or resource gathering. The game’s core mechanics combine portal missions using only ground units with galaxy-map attacks led by starships, where space combat decides if carried ground forces can land, and all galaxy attacks are visible to everyone in real time on the map.
Humanity spread across the stars and lived separated for centuries until ancient alien portals were rediscovered, reconnecting distant worlds instantly. These portals use symbol-based addresses, letting players travel to new planets and launch attacks through them. When the portals mysteriously collapsed, the galaxy fell into isolation and chaos. Now some of the portals are reactivating, unstable but usable, pulling factions back into conflict. You enter the story as one of the survivors rebuilding power, exploring worlds, and fighting for control of the few working gates.
