Tuscan Countryside, 1955. After a year on the run and struggling to survive, Franco Cappelli hears a broadcast on the radio from state scientists stating that the alien mold — the very one that took from him what he held most dear and destroyed his hometown, Florence — spreads more rapidly when it comes into contact with fire.
