The Kingdom of Mali, 1313 Mansa Musa, the 10th ruler of the Mali Empire (r. 1312 to 1337 CE), is widely regarded as one of the wealthiest and most powerful rulers in history. Known for his immense gold wealth, he was also a military leader who expanded Mali’s territory and secured its dominance in West Africa. The King, no longer satisfied with his travels in the mortal realm, used his immense wealth to build a portal to the Underworld. He quickly tamed the Treasure Guardians, terrible beasts with supernatural powers. These beasts threaten the delicate balance of the Underworld.
